It’s hard to believe that
in November of 2008, I had never heard of Twilight, New Moon, or any
of the other books in the series that has swept the nation. I
would have shrugged my shoulders to a conversation about Team Jacob
or Team Edward, and I definitely would have had no mental image of Kristen
Stewart, Robert Pattinson, or Jacob Lautner. Funny as it is, I
currently have a confirmation email in my account for 3 tickets to New
Moon at 12:01 am on opening day November 20, 2009.
So, how did this happen?
What is it about the books in the Twilight series that sucks me in and
makes me want more? Why have I seen the movie countless times,
make sure to catch all the trailer releases for New Moon, and even periodically
check out blog sites dedicated to New Moon and Eclipse coverage just
to keep up on the latest news? I have asked myself a thousand
times, and I still don’t really know the answer.
Here’s what I do know.
I reluctantly stated reading the first book, Twilight, back in January.
I was hooked on it immediately and read it within less than two days.
I saw the movie the afternoon I finished reading the book. We
went to the movie two months after it opened, and the theater was packed
(apparently I wasn’t the only one). Immediately, after watching
the movie, I was hooked. After that day, it took me less than
a week to purchase and read New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.
I stumbled onto a blog site for New Moon and found a new drug for my
addiction. I became much more aware of the every conversation
around me that was about the movie, books, or characters. I also
found more and more people (women) addicted to the books. I became
a huge Twilight fan.
So, here it is, less than two months before the release of New Moon. What are my expectations for the next movie? I can’t even describe them all. I can’t wait to see what parts of the book will be left in or out. I am eager to see the improved filmography, and I am hoping that there won’t be too many cheesy lines. I hope the movie and actors can bring alive the emotions I felt when Edward left Bella (truthfully I had to force myself to read on) and the hope I felt when Bella went to Italy to save Edward. And, although I would definitely categorize myself as Team Edward, I am eager to see the relationship grow between Bella and Jacob. I hope the movie can bring to life the relationship between the two of them so that while I’m heartbroken throughout the movie waiting for Edward to come back, there is still a small part of me secretly rooting for Jacob.
